ChatGPT and Google; will Google lose it billion revenue business; a marketer’s perspective

ChatGPT?is the new buzz word since?OpenAI backed by Microsoft released this new?text-based artificial intelligence chatbot tool?using?written prompts?to generate text?in an advanced and creative way; even carrying out conversations close to what one might have with a human being.

Google has claimed the top notch space in AI expertise for decades now is this a shift and could AI chatbots someday threaten Google's dominance??

Like most of us I have been using Google for virtually all queries; big or small from the narrowest to?some of the most bizarre ones too.?I was intrigued to compare the ChatGPT to Google and see the difference (if any).

I ran 5 queries over a span of 5 days on both the platforms and the results are:?

• ChatGPT is a large language model and certainly not a traditional search engine hence does not have the same access interms of breadth and depth of information as Google does. Comprehensive results may not be possible with it.
• When it came to more open-ended queries ChatGPT performed well.
• ChatGPT also performed well on specific AI backed tasks such as text / post caption writing. Simple writing tasks are best with ChatGPT.
• The greatest USP of ChatGPT is its ability to explain complicated topics as an interactive human without the need to go through unnecessary results as in case of Google.
• Google however knows a lot more about us and tailors the search results based on interests and behaviours.
• There is also a certain level of trust and reliability we associate with Google (not to mention a habit of the opening the tab first in case we need to query. In fact, as my first time to sign up for ChatGPT I actually went to Google first)?
• Google’s massive operations budget and years of expertise perfecting the product is paying off while ChatGPT is still in its learning phase.?

In short whether ChatGPT will replace Google as an alternative still remains to be seen depending heavily on the specific needs and preferences of users. It is certainly a useful option for those who want personalized conversational search experiences.?
