ChatGPT is Going to Rewrite My Best Work
I'm a bit daunted by ChatGPT. What about you?

ChatGPT is Going to Rewrite My Best Work

The other day I was having a conversation with ChatGPT the AI that has caught the world on fire. While it's no SkyNet, the power of this machine and its "human-corrected" education is daunting. As I asked GPT to rewrite each of my character bios for a TV SERIES I'm working on, I was a bit overwhelmed by the results. It's not perfect, but damn if this AI can't write or "rewrite" some good stuff.

Here's an example of merely pointing the AI to a blog I write and next asking it to write a bio for me.

John McElhenney is the writer and creator of "The Off Parent" blog and website, which provides resources, advice, and support for single parents. He is also a business development and marketing professional with experience in a variety of industries. He is known for his expertise in digital marketing and market research. He's also a speaker and workshop facilitator in the areas of single parenting, dating, and emotional wellness. He's on a mission to help single parents navigate the unique challenges they face and build a supportive community for them.

Okay, that's not bad. I really do need to finish building that community portion of the blog. Dang, GPT, good call, good call. And as I was asking it to rewrite the character bios and synopsis of my tv series, I was not only impressed but slightly worried by the potential uses and abuses of this technology. And, get this, we're currently using GTP-2. They are about to release and make us pay for GPT-4. Supposedly, exponentially better and more informed than its predecessor.

So, how are writers and copywriters using GTP today? I can tell you, it's a topic that runs through almost every standup meeting in my international team calls. Just ask it anything. I had it give me an apple crumble recipe.

And so, MSFT has made a pledge for a 10 billion dollar investment in GPT. Are they going to put its capabilities in Word? Will it revive a basically dead search engine, BING? Will Azure find a way to make it a platform? What's the future of AI and generative text?

I don't know the answer, but I do know it is already influencing all of us in the tech industry. If I get a poorly constructed paragraph from a copywriter, my first impulse these days is to run it through GTP. Let's look at one example.

Here is my bio for the lead character in my tv series.

Jason is having a peak moment with the SXSW showcase of his band, Jason and the Pilots. In less than 24 hours Jason’s life unravels. Optimism under pressure becomes his new guiding principle.

He is as a successful marketing consultant, the father of a son and daughter, and an upcoming musician. Jason loves his life, he loves his wife, and he is blindsided by her offensive move toward divorce.

Jason is about to get a crash course in what is important in his life.

Here is GPT's rewrite.

Meet Jason, a talented musician and the lead singer of his band, Jason and the Pilots. He is on top of the world as he showcases his band at the prestigious SXSW festival. However, in a matter of hours, his life takes a drastic turn as his wife unexpectedly initiates divorce proceedings.

As a successful marketing consultant, devoted father to a son and daughter, and an up-and-coming musician, Jason's world is turned upside down.

Despite this setback, he remains determined to maintain a positive outlook and focus on what truly matters in his life. Through this difficult time, he learns valuable lessons about love, family, and the importance of staying true to oneself.??

I'll rest my case. What do you think? How have you started to use ChatGPT in your work?
