Is ChatGPT Friend or Foe?

In last couple of Days ChatGPT is breaking Internet. I personally tried it. So just tried to summarize points, which I found / feel, based upon my experience so thought of sharing.

ChatGPT “ Scary good thing ? Said by Elon musk. Somewhat true as it is good addition to modern world.

I will personally second Chomsky’s argument is that

“ AI will not help us understand the world better but it will help us develop useful tools that make our life easier and more efficient. Not good for science directly, but still good for quality of life improvements and it can help science indirectly by producing tools that help us do science”.

What Is ChatGPT ?

ChatGPT is a chatbot designed to understand and generate human-like language through the use of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning techniques. It is based on the GPT (Generative Pre-training Transformer) language model developed by OpenAI, which has been trained on a large dataset of human language in order to better understand how humans communicate.

In my point of view and in simple words it is easier Search Engine sort of Large Lookup Table based on Generative AI approach.

It’s more like smart extension of google as search engine and will make life easier by combining all searches and providing an initial draft to start quickly with. In simple words large lookup table but definitely a threat to google as it’s a good idea to help people and speeding up boring or non-safety critical things by providing good suggestions in single place.

ChatGPT can be used for some productive things, if they are non-high-stakes/Entertainment. (Writing essays, getting answer to your simple questions etc ). Means it will provide an easy solution to your queries and help to start from somewhere initially.

What ChatGPT does not provide ?

• ?Solution to specific problem E.g in industry or in real life we solve specific complex problems and for that solution needs to be figured out or even in writing code ChatGPT can provide initial code snippet just like Github-copilot but to solve specific problem it is not capable might be in future but it will be tricky as people who understands DL they might know that providing Logical reasoning is trickier with DL.

Is ChatGPT a Threat to Jobs (Specifically developers jobs):

• ?Yes ---- To really simple jobs like editors, content creators, non-high-stakes/Entertainment.
• ?No ---- To areas, which demands Problem solving skills, Safety Critical applications / products etc.
• ?No ---- For Developers jobs. It will make developers life more easier to reduce their search time but jobs will be there as Developers have to think more logically in-order to solve problem and find some solution for it.

What Discussion is required or needs to be triggered among community:

• ??Where ChatGPTs answers are coming?
• ??How Data is trained and what is source of data. In terms of Data set maturity?
• ???After how many searches it provides us results.
• ?? How reliable the results are?

Conclusion / My Views:

I think it’s a great revolutionary Tool and great addition to society. A large Lookup table which will save time for non-safety ciritical tasks and give an initial start by providing Initial draft towards the issues and saves time. Indeed a Threat to other search engine.?
