IS ChatGPT an Evolution of ELIZA ?
Most recently, AI is becoming the buzz in the market and special mention would be ChatGPT. Let us try and understand what it really does and why it is a buzz.
As someone who has been fascinated by technology for years, I know that many of the so-called "new" concepts have actually been around for decades. To my believe this is certainly the case with the technology that powers ChatGPT. In fact, a similar DOS program called ELIZA was in existence back in the early 90s.
ELIZA was a game-like program that operated on DOS because the internet was not yet widely available. As a result, the responses were limited, and the application had certain boundaries. I remember de-compiling the code in those early days, and finding that it was simply an index TXT file embedded within the application. This file was what provided us with the programmed responses.
Looking back, it's amazing to see how far we've come since those days. The technology that powers ChatGPT is light years ahead of what ELIZA was capable of, and the internet has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for AI-powered chatbots. Nonetheless, it's interesting to reflect on the humble beginnings of this technology and how it has evolved over the years.
Now Let's try and understand how that application program work at that time.

Now back in those days the Questions and Answer were pre-compiled and feed to the system. The logic was simple. The user enter questions, were check for any key words and compare with the precompiled question, if such keyword were found just provide as per the mapped answers to those questions.
Now in the case of ChatGPT what the difference. To me the basic principle remains the same. But as internet is easy and very fast the system search of answers base on the keyword and the index files using a neural network architecture.
When it comes to evaluating the effectiveness of ChatGPT, the answer is not a simple "yes" or "no." Its usefulness really depends on the intended use case. While ChatGPT is capable of generating some incredibly realistic and human-like responses, it's important to remember that its ability to do so is limited to the available data on the internet and the training index that has been created using that data.
So, while ChatGPT can be an incredibly useful tool for bouncing ideas off of or getting a second opinion on a solution, it's important to remember that its responses are based solely on what it has been trained on. Ultimately, it's our own creativity and ideas that will drive the success of any project or problem-solving endeavor. ChatGPT is a valuable resource to have at our disposal, but it should never be viewed as a replacement for our own intelligence and ingenuity.
Overall, ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a cutting-edge natural language processing (NLP) model that utilizes neural network architecture and unsupervised learning to create human-like responses to a given input. One of its unique features is its ability to comprehend conversation context and generate responses that fit seamlessly with the previous discussion. ChatGPT is a versatile tool that can be employed in various conversational applications such as customer service, language translation, text summarization, and sentiment analysis. Its advanced NLP capabilities make it a valuable asset in these fields.
