ChatGPT and The Age-Old Tradition of Assisted Writing
Debunking the myths and embracing technology to enhance your work.
I want you to pretend that you just hired a research assistant for your business. This isn’t just any assistant this assistant has passed the Bar exam, the MBA operations exam, the Medical license exam, can write software code in all languages, speaks all languages, and has basically read every single book written prior to 2021. Oh, not to mention they have perfect grammar as well. This is how I think about ChatGPT.
Assistance in writing is not a new concept. Throughout history, writers have sought the help of others to compose their work. In the past, this assistance took the form of scribes, editors, and collaborators. Today, technology has provided us with new tools, such as language models like ChatGPT, to help us write.
One of the most notable examples of assistance in writing can be found in the religious texts of the past. In a conversation with my good friend Dr. Rick Roque, he shared that in the early days of Christianity, theologians often used pseudepigrapha to compose biblical writings. Pseudepigrapha refers to works written under a false name or pseudonym. This was a common practice among religious scholars, who believed that by writing under the name of a well-respected figure, their work would be more likely to be accepted by the community.
Critics of assistance in writing argue that it undermines the authenticity and originality of the work. However, this argument is based on a misunderstanding of the creative process. The use of assistance does not necessarily mean that the work is inauthentic or unoriginal. Instead, it is a tool that can help the writer to express their ideas more clearly and effectively.
Furthermore, the use of assistance in writing can also lead to more diversity in voices and perspectives. As technology advances, it has also become possible for people who were previously unable to write, such as those with disabilities, to compose their own work. This has led to a wider range of voices and perspectives being represented in the written word, which is a positive development.
Here are 8 ways you can leverage ChatGPT along with prompts to get you started:
Marketing: A company could use ChatGPT to generate high-quality, engaging content for their website, social media, and email campaigns. Specifically, ChatGPT can be used to write captions, comments, and generate effective hashtags for your posts. The model could be trained on the company's brand voice and tone, as well as industry-specific keywords, to produce content that resonates with their target audience. This would save time and resources compared to traditional content creation methods and could help to increase brand visibility and drive more leads.
Prompt 1: “Write a powerful headline that captures attention”
Prompt 2: “Create a social media content strategy to include how often posts should go out, as well as 30 topic headlines equally distributed between the topics of Sales, Leadership, and change. Platforms to include are Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter.”
Sales: A sales team could use ChatGPT to generate personalized, effective sales scripts for different customer segments. The model could be trained on data about the customer, such as demographics, pain points, and buying history, and use that information to generate tailored sales pitches. This would save the sales team time and help them close more deals by addressing the specific needs and concerns of each customer.
Prompt: “Write a sales script to sell (insert product) to (insert as much demographic customer detail as you can) with the goal of (insert objective of call like ‘booking an appointment’). You will need to preempt and overcome the following objections (list out predictable objections).”
Internal Communications: A company could use ChatGPT to generate internal communications such as weekly updates, meeting summaries, and employee handbooks. The model could be trained on the company's internal language and culture, and use that information to produce clear and consistent internal communications, saving time and resources for the internal team.
Prompt: “Write a weekly update letter highlighting the following events (enter all events you desire to include in the update). Make sure to have a friendly welcoming feel while being excited for the week. Touch on the importance of teamwork and collaboration as we enter the new year. Make sure that the letter is one page only.”
Email Responses: ChatGPT could be used to quickly generate responses to common emails, such as meeting requests, status updates, and customer inquiries. This would allow leaders to respond to emails more efficiently and effectively.

Topics to include are “why it is important to market more during down markets, how a personal brand matters more than ever, and the fundamentals of selling never die.” Please include actual supporting data and research studies and cite the sources.?
In conclusion, the use of assistance in writing is not a new concept. Throughout history, writers have sought the help of others to compose their work, and today technology has provided us with new tools such as ChatGPT to help us write. The use of ChatGPT is not a replacement for human creativity, but rather a tool to enhance it. It can help to express ideas more clearly and effectively and lead to more diversity in voices and perspectives in the written word. As technology continues to evolve, the possibilities for ChatGPT are endless. It is up to us to think outside the box and come up with innovative ways to use this technology to improve our work and our lives. The future is exciting, and we can't wait to see where ChatGPT will take us.
