ChatGPT 4 - Another game changer or just rumors?

ChatGPT has been inevitable in recent months and it seems Microsoft is about to level up the AI tool, propelling it into the spotlight once again. It is expected that Microsoft will launch GPT-4 as early as this week, granting AI-generated video capabilities from simple text prompts.

The news was announced by Andreas Braun, Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft Germany in a recent event “AI in Focus — Digital Kickoff”.

"We will introduce GPT-4 next week. We will have multimodal models that will offer completely different possibilities — for example videos."

GPT-4 is the underlying massive language model technology that powers apps like ChatGPT. Originally, ChatGPT can only reply in text form but the coming update will change all that.

What is GPT-4?

GPT-4 is a new language model created by OpenAI that can generate text which is comparable to human speech. Based on GPT-3.5, it will advance the technology operated by ChatGPT. GPT is the synonym for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, a deep learning technology that uses artificial neural networks to write like a human.

Apparently, billions of parameters are used to revise the output of ChatGPT’s simulated neurons to achieve the expected result. The huge amount of detail helps a computer come closer to the interconnectedness of a human brain, which is also comprised of billions of neurons. OpenAI hasn’t confirmed any details about GPT-4 but does acknowledge that it is in progress. However, rumors are abundant. For instance, industry experts speculated that GPT-4 would feature 100 trillion parameters in August 2021. Building an AI with more parameters doesn’t necessarily guarantee better performance; but it could affect the way of response.

Machine learning expert, Emil Wallner, tweeted that GPT-4 might have the capability to handle text, images and videos (also know as a multimodal model). He further adds on that GPT-4 might have four times (8K resolution) and 16 times (32K) more power versus the previous GPT-3.5 which works with up to 2,048 words (the two DV models). This allows much more in-depth discussions to solve much bigger issues.

Even with ChatGPT 3, some traders have already tested using ChatGPT to improve performance by generating sentiment analysis from social media posts. Traders were combining their trading strategies to identify potential buying or selling opportunities. With the new capabilities, could we be expecting vivid graphs or videos to further supplement the experience?

All in all, this is all just hypothesis. What we do know for certain is that GPT-4 is in progress and that it could bring a considerable improvement to the results possible with ChatGPT.

These days, Microsoft explained that GPT-4 would be “multi-modal.”?

Holger Kenn, Director of Business Strategy at Microsoft Germany at the AI event, explained that this would allow the company’s AI to translate a user’s text into images, music, and even video.

In addition, Microsoft gave a sample of how a call center could use GPT-4 to automatically convert phone conversations between employees and customers into text, which would save huge amounts of time and effort that would previously be expended on summarising those calls after they finish.

With GPT-4 apparently launching soon, we might not have long to wait before seeing what the next version of ChatGPT is capable of. Are we looking at a game changer rippling the landscape globally another time around?
