ChatGPT 3 Passe? V.4 Knocking at the Door

If you thought the world of generative AI might be slowing down a bit, think again. It's been a busy week in AI and new innovations continue to blow the old updates out of the water. Here is a summary of what I've been paying attention to this week as an AI Explorer:

ChatGPT 4 coming this week? Microsoft announced an AI event for this Thursday, March 16th, and some say it's to announce the release of ChatGPT 4. It's purported to be a "multi-modal" release, which is to say it will support text, audio, video and images as input. Will it be a Bing only release, or will it be for all ChatGPT users? I guess we'll find out sooner than later. You can read all about it HERE.

ChatGPT alternatives on your desktop? One of the big fears of OpenAI and ChatGPT is that generative AI will be owned by very large companies with deep pockets. Nobody likes a monopoly and it looks like grassroots AI is now available to a lot more people. The ChatGPT like model called "Meta LLaMA" could be a democratizing event similar to Stable Diffusion for image generation. It will still require some powerful compute power and some coder-level expertise to get running properly, but will it be just the first step in a more democratic generative AI future? OpenAI has an OpenAPI, but what will it cost? Now that OpenAI has released it's API along with it's "Whisper" application, businesses can start to develop their own ChatGPT style integrations. This could be used for customer service querries, workflow automations, and some other transformative and time saving use cases. But how much will that power cost? This article does an amazing job of breaking it down, and as you'll see, it's not quite as "simple" as OpenAI says it is. Read the article HERE.

Is there another piece of AI news that we should have commented on this week? Do you have thoughts about what ChatGPT 4 could mean in a world already reeling with the impacts of ChatGPT 3? What does it mean to stay ahead of this curve? This is fascinating and frightening all at the same time.
