The mojito is a popular cocktail with origins in Cuba. It is believed to have been created in the late 19th century, although its exact origins are somewhat disputed. The drink is closely associated with the Cuban culture and is considered one of the country's signature cocktails.

One popular theory suggests that the mojito was originally developed as a medicinal drink. The combination of ingredients, including lime, mint, and sugarcane-based rum, was believed to have therapeutic properties and was used to treat various ailments.

Another theory suggests that the mojito was initially consumed by African slaves working in the sugarcane fields of Cuba. It is said that they used the available ingredients, such as sugarcane juice, lime, and mint, to create a refreshing beverage during their breaks.

The mojito gained broader recognition and popularity in the United States during the Prohibition era when Americans traveled to Cuba to enjoy alcoholic beverages. American author Ernest Hemingway, who lived in Cuba for many years, was known to be a fan of the mojito and helped to popularize it among his circle of friends and acquaintances.

Over time, the mojito has evolved and gained international fame. Today, it is enjoyed in many countries around the world and is commonly associated with summer, tropical vibes, and refreshing flavors.

  • Lime wedges and mint sprigs (for garnish)
