A chat with our Director and co-founder, Pete Morrison

Pete, you founded Workspace Audio Visual with Marc Thrush just a couple of years ago. What inspired you to set it up?

We were inspired to start WSAV having spotted a real need for better business outcomes for users of audio-visual systems. We noticed that many businesses were struggling with outdated and inefficient AV setups that were hindering productivity and communication, which ultimately had a negative impact on their bottom line. We decided to address this problem by providing sustainable, user-focused solutions that not only help companies improve their daily operations but also see a significant return on investment.

What makes Workspace Audio Visual special?

By taking a holistic approach that really considers the user experience and sustainability, we can help increase adoption rates and create a more productive and engaged workforce, which is crucial in today’s competitive business landscape.

What exciting things do you have planned for the coming year?

Building a second and third life channel for audio-visual equipment is an exciting prospect for the year ahead. This new channel would provide users with a platform to purchase second-hand AV equipment, enabling them to access high-quality technology at a lower cost, reducing electronic waste by promoting the re-use of existing equipment. This development aligns with the growing trend towards sustainability in the AV industry, and I’m excited to see how it will benefit both users and the environment.

What does your typical working day look like?

There hasn’t been a typical workday since Marc and I started this adventure. Every day has seen its challenges (and there have been a few along the way). This is why I really enjoy the process, as it’s been like a school day almost every day!

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

Being able to make quick decisions that can have an instant impact, either for our staff or our customers.

What would you say are the three biggest skills you bring to your role?

1: Being lazy – I don’t want to keep repeating the same tasks over and over, so if I can find a way to automate something, I will!

2: Cutting out the bull – Minimizing the red tape and processes for process sake. Again, this relates to not wanting to create extra work and remaining agile.

3: Problem solving and the ability to understand issues from various key functions including Sales, Delivery and Support.

What are the key ingredients you think go towards building a happy workplace?

Making sure everyone has a voice, treating everyone with the same level of respect, and making sure people get the rewards and recognition they deserve.

Name one interesting fact people might not know about you?

When I was 10 I managed to lock my cousin and our dog in the boot of my mother’s brand new car (only collected at 12am that morning from the dealership). I then left the keys in the ignition only for the central locking to totally lock the car with the stereo on full. We had Fire Brigade and ambulance attend. There was talk of removing the windscreen to access the car or smashing windows, but luckily the supply car dealer was able to cut a key and rush it too us before this was necessary. My cousin, the dog and myself all ended up on the front pages of every local paper and even on page 4 of The Sun.
