Read on.

1. Tell us about how you started with ELC Malaysia.

Nur Zulaikha: I began my journey with ELC Malaysia as an intern. I saw it as an amazing opportunity to step into the educational field. I’ve done some teaching before, however, my time here reshaped my aspirations. Working closely with students and staff, I discovered my passion extended beyond teaching—it lay in fostering connections and ensuring students have the best experience possible. This realization led me to lean towards public relations and communications which has been incredibly fulfilling and rewarding.

2. What challenges have you faced in your role?

Nur Zulaikha: One of the biggest tasks I have is welcoming a new batch of International students each term and getting orientation and mobility programmes off the ground. It’s an anxious period where I will have to ensure that the students are able to acclimatize and accustomize to the new environment where they would be spending a great deal of time in. I have to be on high alert and prepared to handle anything that arises. There is also a strong teamwork culture that is the backbone of the school - supports me if I have questions, and advice I can seek and learn from.?

All in all, I’ve enjoyed my time here. Each term brings new faces, new dynamics, and unique challenges, which keeps the role exciting and pushes me to adapt and grow continually.

3. How do you manage students from different nationalities?

Nur Zulaikha: At first, it was a challenge. Many of our students come here to learn English, so their grasp of the language is often minimal. This can make communication difficult, especially when trying to understand their needs and expectations.

Over time, I’ve learned to navigate these challenges by being patient and empathetic. I’ve also built strong relationships with our partners and collaborators, which has helped me better understand and cater to the diverse needs of our students. It’s a learning process, but one that’s incredibly rewarding.

4. What are your most memorable moments at ELC Malaysia?

Nur Zulaikha: Graduation ceremonies are always the highlight of my work. Seeing these international students grow in confidence and speak English fluently is incredibly satisfying. Remembering the times when they started off to how they’ve grown over time is always inspiring.

A proud moment to share too – I have officially graduated from the University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) in December 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Linguistics. My academic journey was complemented by my time at ELC, which played an important role in refining my interpersonal skills and I see a positive change in myself. This combination of experiences has been a confidence booster as I start on my career path, equipped with both knowledge and personal growth.?

A Story of Growth and Dedication

Nur Zulaikha’s journey is an inspiring testament to perseverance and career growth. Her ability to adapt, her dedication to fostering a welcoming environment, and her commitment to student success have made her an invaluable part of ELC Malaysia.

To Zu, ELC is more than just a language school—it’s a hub for personal and global growth. Students from all over the world come to ELC to learn, connect, and transform into confident, well-rounded individuals.

If you’re seeking a supportive and vibrant educational community, ELC Malaysia could be the perfect place to start your journey.
