Chasing Paper

Chasing Paper

you and me chasing paper,
getting nowhere
on our way
back home

Will anyone know what the phrase in this Beatles song mean in a few years. We are transitioning our whole money system as we go - it isn't happening overnight but it's happening and individuals, companies, financial institutions, and countries need to be prepared. So while cash rules everything around me, that's rapidly changing.

When it does happen, it may feel like it did actually happen overnight; but it's getting built, just like the internet was in the early 90s...and we know how that's turned out.

So how can we get prepared? I think the best thing to do now is listen to the players, understand what they are saying, doing, and where they are putting their money. What we have now that we have never in history had, is the ability to see what's actually happening - if we choose to look and learn. People are putting all kinds of information out there, building products and services and broadcasting it out there while doing it.

This, from Michael Batnick, is a great jumping off point and case in point -

There are options for people of all walks of life to dip their toes in, and, while everyone's situation is different and this is by no means advice - seems like a good place to get a bet in on what may legitimately take over the world of finance over the next couple decades. It is at least worthwhile to stop and think about your asset allocation and see where it could fit. That I always recommend.

For some more context and insights into the impact of changing finance - can't say it better than Theodora Lau, who I hope you all follow:

Some of what's happening may seem crazy and ridiculous but there will be so much value and opportunity created here, it's not a good idea to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The future of finance is a lot to think about - the best way forward is to break it down and think about how you interact with that world and how it can change along with new technological innovations. You have the tools, you have the people and podcasts to follow... oh, and you have me ;)

Next up is Taxation with a digital currency. Toss out all the current tax laws. Forget about things like depreciation. Focus on growing the dollar volume of your business / profitability and never give a thought to tax consequences. Governments no longer tax income or profits. They tax movement. Every time money moves it is taxed fractionally, fractions of a cent. No more IRS. No More Industry to Avoid Taxes. Building your business or income is your only focus. Taxes are almost inconsequential when they are a fraction of a cent on a dollar that moves digitally.
