Charting a path to low-carbon leadership: Unlocking up to 90% emissions reductions in Greenfield LNG.

Charting a path to low-carbon leadership: Unlocking up to 90% emissions reductions in Greenfield LNG.

On behalf of Wood, yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting at the Australian Energy Producers Conference and Exhibition on Charting a path to low-carbon leadership: Unlocking up to 90% Scope 1 & 2 emissions reductions in Greenfield LNG.

We showed how the Safeguard reforms provide three guardrails:

  1. New LNG facilities must align emissions intensity with international best practices
  2. Production-Adjusted Baseline sets emissions intensity benchmarks for different industries
  3. Reservoir CO2 from new gas projects likely required to be fully abated or offset

Focusing on the partnerships involved in the Middle Arm precinct, we demonstrated how an LNG asset can achieve significant emission reductions by assessing, screening, and selecting technologies with a marginal abatement philosophy.

This electrified LNG model here has significant potential for replication on existing Brownfield assets in our region, and on other suitable regions with strong renewable resources and CCS potential.
