Hello, LinkedIn community!
I hope this post finds you all in good health and high spirits. Today, I want to share an incredible journey that took me to the heart of Mindanao, where I had the privilege of visiting our esteemed academic partner, La Salle University - Ozamiz , in the vibrant city of Misamis Occidental. This visit marked the second stop in my exploration of the rich diversity and potential of the hospitality industry in Mindanao, the first being the captivating Davao City.
The primary objective of this visit was to strengthen our partnership with La Salle Ozamiz and work collaboratively to prepare the next generation of leaders in the hospitality industry. Over the course of two remarkable days, I had the honor of engaging with the dedicated team at the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, led by Dean Joed layna , as well as the exceptional faculty members and staff who make it all happen. I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. michael angelo pagara , Ms. Karen Linganay , Ms. Irene Almera Pastrano , Mr. Prince Vincent Castillo , Ms. alleah janine cobrilla , Ms. Sheen Leigh Jorolan , Chef Florimel Mante , and Ms. Clare Neri for their warm hospitality and unwavering commitment to excellence.
The first day was filled with productive discussions on faculty development and curriculum review, under the theme "Elevating Hospitality: Today, Tomorrow, and Everything in Between." We delved into crucial soft skills in the hospitality industry, such as "Work Ethic," "Initiative," and "Teamwork," in line with the findings of Bob McKercher and Eve Ren's (2021) study, while also exploring emerging trends like AI Integration, DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion), Sustainability, Wellness Tourism, and Sports and Recreation. We recognized the need for innovation in the classroom to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
On the second day, I had the privilege of addressing nearly 400 students pursuing courses in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The dialogue centered on "Hello Future: Transforming Hospitality Dreams into Reality." I challenged these bright young minds to embrace continuous learning, adapt to industry trends, and hone the essential soft skills required for success. Their enthusiasm and determination were truly inspiring.
During my stay, I also had the pleasure of meeting Br. Antolin Alcudia III FSC, the University President, and the entire academic and administrative team, all of whom embody the university's values of "Faith," "Service," and "Communion."
The remaining days were filled with enchanting surprises as the CTHM team introduced me to the beauty of Misamis Occidental, aptly known as the "City of Culture, Heritage, and Inspiring Pilgrimage." From Baga Falls to Baobawon Beach, Tangub City to the Caluya Shrine, every moment was a testament to the province's rich history and breathtaking landscapes. I can't even mention the rest of the tourist spots that we were able to visit, but I will keep them in my heart forever, including those in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte.

What truly made this journey unforgettable were the countless laughs and the warm hospitality that the CTHM team extended to me. It's in these moments of camaraderie and shared experiences that relationships are forged and memories are etched into our hearts.
The local delicacies were a culinary delight, and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the region's diverse flavors.
My visit to Ozamiz was a poignant reminder that the Philippines has an abundance of treasures yet to be fully explored and appreciated. I hope that, as hoteliers and as Filipinos, we will continue to showcase our culture to the global community and nurture the bright minds ready to lead the hospitality industry into the future.
Thank you, La Salle Ozamiz, for an unforgettable experience!
