Since 2018, the Ocean Stewardship Coalition of the United Nations Global Compact has united key stakeholders to identify key actions for a healthy and resilient ocean, critical for achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
At the 78th UN General Assembly, three meetings were held to reinforce their mission, emphasizing the ocean's pivotal role in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, health, poverty and life on Earth.?
High-level ocean meeting: Heads of state, UN leaders, industry CEOs and civil society convened to advocate for stronger collaboration on sustainable ocean management, to discuss the enablers to scaling ocean-based solutions and to outline the ambitious pathway to transforming our relationship with the ocean.
Return on ocean investment roundtable: The roundtable focused on the role of financial markets and investors in enabling a supportive, long-term investment environment to grow the sustainable ocean economy. Takeaways are being implemented into an Ocean Investment Protocol, which will serve as a shared roadmap for Governments, finance and industry to enable a pipeline of sustainable ocean investments and to unlock greater blue investment opportunities.
Road to COP28 ocean working session: The Ocean Stewardship Coalition came together to review progress, plan actions for the upcoming year and reinforce dedication to the 5 tipping points for a healthy and productive ocean . In this working session, participants crafted policy recommendations set to be presented at COP28.
