Something big happened this week. Clean Up The Lake hosted the Litter Summit, a gathering of 50 professionals from management agencies, non-profits, and private organizations to tackle litter in the Tahoe Basin. The summit was more than just a meeting; it was a rally for collective action.?
Community leaders united, fostering an environment where ideas flourished, from groundbreaking strategies to practical approaches for?combating litter. Discussions covered aspects of tourism management, recreation infrastructure, and enforcement.?
Amidst this collaborative exchange, the League to Save Lake Tahoe stood championing the cause to Keep Tahoe Blue while unveiling our new?Trashboard, which encapsulated a decade of impactful data.
The League’s “Science to Solutions” approach has been instrumental in driving policy changes, culminating in the bans on plastic bags and styrofoam, along with?Truckee and the City of South Lake Tahoe’s ban on single-use plastic water bottles. But it’s not just about policies—it’s about people. Jesse Patterson, the League’s Chief Strategy Officer, led a workshop on Tahoe’s 4th of July impacts and preparing for a litter-free 2024 season, emphasizing the importance of working together and community involvement.
As the summit concluded, optimism for the future was at an all-time high. The collaboration and data-driven strategies discussed promise meaningful change. With the League’s leadership and community participation, a cleaner, bluer Lake Tahoe is within reach.
