The Cleveland Guardians mourn the passing of our teammate, Minnie Mendoza. After joining the organization in 1990, Mendoza served as a coach, advisor and mentor in our Player Development System for over 30 years. Our thoughts are with the Mendoza Family during this time.

We are so excited to announce that Steven Kwan is our 2024 Roberto Clemente Award nominee, presented by Capital One. The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One is the annual recognition of a Major League Baseball (MLB) player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Kwan is in his 3rd year hosting Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s John Marshall High School students for his player program Guardians Chess Club. This spring, the outfielder won Chess.com’s SlugChamps tournament and sent his 1st place prize money to CMSD Chess Clubs. Kwan’s 2nd year in the True2U Mentoring Program included several in-person and virtual visits with the 8th grade class at CMSD’s Hannah Gibbons-Nottingham School, including a trip to the eighth-grade basketball game this past offseason. Kwan actively supports diverse populations, especially the Players Alliance and various AAPI groups, and advocates for the growth of baseball in underrepresented communities. Last Thursday, our Front Office took a well-deserved break from the hustle of the baseball season to celebrate our Annual Summer Party! ???? It’s always refreshing to gather, relax, and recharge as we gear up for thrilling September baseball. A huge shoutout to our Fun Committee for planning an incredible tropical-themed event that brought us all together, creating lasting memories. And a big thank you to Margaritaville for being the perfect hosts at the stunning East Bank of the Flats – nothing beats those beautiful Cleveland views! Special congrats to John Bowers for winning the tropical costume contest! You really brought the island vibes. ???? To everyone who participated and helped make the event a success – we appreciate you! Here’s to great times and even greater teammates! ??
