Charlie Groth talks aboard the SPLASH
On June 22, 2019, I really enjoyed presenting narrative stewardship ideas aboard the SPLASH Steamboat, a floating classroom that docks in Lambertville NJ. The river was too high (the story of our 2019 shad fishing season!) for the planned shad cruise, but the audience was so engaged and the breeze so sweet, that staying dockside was still a wonderful way to enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors.
Presenting with Lewis Fishery Captain, Steve Meserve, is always fun, and after two decades of fishing with him, I still learn something every time I hear one of his talks. Erik Silldorff, the Restoration Director from the Delaware Riverkeeper Network shared information on the state of sturgeon and herring populations.
Of course, I must thank SPLASH! Director, Eric Clark, for his years of encouragement while waiting for the publication of my book, Another Haul: Narrative Stewardship and Cultural Sustainability at the Lewis Family Fishery (University Press of Mississippi, 2019).
