Charity Spotlight - Haymakers 4 Hope

Why Teddy Roosevelt? he once wrote in "The Man in the Great Arena:"

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

H4H is an official 501(c)(3) charity organization that gives everyday folks the opportunity to fight back against cancer. They help you train for — and compete in — a sanctioned charity boxing event to raise funds for cancer research, care, awareness and survivorship. To prepare for each event, they combine?the efforts of local boxing gyms and volunteers, and match individuals up with someone of a similar experience level (even if that experience level is “none”). At the end of the journey, those fighters compete in front of thousands of supporters, and win or lose they step into and out of the ring a champion. So my journey has officially begun with H4H and it has been a challenging one both physically and otherwise. This is only week 3 for me, but I have found renewed purpose in life. Thank you H4H for this incredible opportunity. I am forever grateful...

A little more about the history of H4H.

In 2009, founders Andrew Myerson and Julie Anne Kelly participated in the New York City Golden Gloves. They decided that competing against the city’s best boxers wasn’t enough, and decided to raise money for cancer research. This planted the seeds for Haymakers for Hope. Today, H4H gives everyday people the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in their first sanctioned boxing event. The experience is impactful, challenging, and life-changing, and the march towards a cure will continue long after the last match of the night. Not every fight ends at the bell.?And every journey like mine is different.... we may be competing on November 18 in NYC but the fight has only begun. It doesn't end on that date. This is only one battle in the war. One round at a time in doing everything to fight this terrible disease. So let's help H4H and me KO Cancer!
