Charity Connections Civility

Charity Connections Civility

What if we could:

  • Replace fear with JOY
  • Replace shouting with LISTENING
  • Replace arguments with MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING

Would the world be a better place?

Last month I hosted the 1st monthly 3-C’s zoom call. The 3-C’s call is an open discussion in the spirit of The Philadelphia Statement, which I would summarize as “we need a culture where freedom and civility coexist … where we can disagree and still treat each other as human beings and fellow citizens.”

The purpose of the 3-C group is focused on The Philadelphia Statement. All are welcome as long as you agree with The Philadelphia Statement, and extend Charity, pursue Connections, and be Civil, especially with the others in the group.

There were 4 people on the call last month and the discussion flowed freely. It was encouraging to see people share their thoughts on what it means to be a civil grace giver and realizing more clearly that everyone has a story about how this has impacted their lives.

People seeing the struggle of just being decent to each other even within their families was a topic that we spent some time on. We also talked about how easy it is to hide behind a keyboard and say (type) things that you would never say face to face to someone.

This month we will see where the conversation takes us again. I do have two things that I will share to get the discussion rolling. I hope you can join us for the call, however, if you can’t you can still partake in the dialog by responding to this post.

Details: Wednesday, October 14th at 7pm via Zoom

Here are the two points we will be attempting to have a civil grace giver conversation around:

  1. When people are asked to describe someone of a different political belief regarding how honest, reasonable, caring, brainwashed, hateful, or racist – how is it that when you look at the graph results that the numbers are almost identical? What can we do to have a better understanding of our similarities instead of focusing on our differences?

2. Before Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death there was a poll taken of when the hearing should take place to determine her replacement. Across party lines it was clear that the hearings should take place before the election. When she passed, however, something changed and now the parties are divided and some want to wait till after the election. What happened? How could the predominant opinion change so quickly? Can we have an open discussion about this and see how we can learn from each other with understanding and civil grace giving? Source article.

If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.

What are YOU standing for?

As a point of full transparency, I stand on Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and on the truth of the Bible. As a follower of Christ, I believe that my primary identifier is Christian, not Democrat or Republican or any other label. May I remember that as a Christian my one and only real job is to point others to Christ. I believe if we can be a civil grace giver this will happen a little bit more often and God will get the glory for how He works in our life.

Here is the link to the Facebook event for this month’s call. If you aren’t on Facebook and would like to attend, email me and I will get you added to the calendar event.

As always, if I can help you with anything please reach out.
