Charge up your knowledge with Tecloman's latest introduction on charging pile!

As the electric vehicle market continues its rapid growth???, the integration of battery storage with charging stations is poised to become an even more popular application.

Introduction

As we all know, the Charging Pile is a product created for the service of electric vehicles. The earliest can be traced back to the world's first DC motor-driven trolley car was introduced in 1881. So before introducing the charging pile, it is necessary to introduce the electric car.

Electric Vehicle Classification
Charging Pile Concept

Charging Pile refers to the charging device that provides energy supplement for electric vehicles, and its function is similar to the gasoline dispenser inside the gas station, which can be fixed on the ground or wall, and installed in public buildings (public buildings, shopping malls, public parking lots, etc.) and residential parking lots or charging stations, and it can be used for charging various types of electric vehicles according to different voltage levels.

Charging Pile Classification

Charging Pile are categorized by output current, which can be divided into DC Charging Pileand AC charging pile.

On board charger:The grid voltage is connected to the on-board charger to charge the electric battery via the ground-based AC Charging Pile and AC charging port. Essentially an AC-DC converter consisting of a power factor corrector + isolated DC-DC.

Charging Pile can also be categorized according to the installation method, divided into wall-mounted charging pile, wall-mounted column charging pile and floor-standing charging pile.

Wall-mounted charging pile. Wall-mounted column charging pile. Floor-standing charging pile.

International charging standard interface

Type 1:United States, Japan Type 2:European

Method of connecting an electric vehicle to a power grid using cables and connecting devices

  • Case B: Connection of an EV to a supply network with a cable assemble

detachable at both ends.

  • Case C: Connection of an EV to a supply network utilizing a cable and vehicle connector permanently attached to the EV charging station.

OCPP&OCTT

The Open Charging Protocol (OCPP) provides a unified communication scheme between charging stations and any central management system. The protocol framework supports any charging service provider's central management system to communicate with all charging stations.

This framework supports the interconnection of any charging service provider's central management system with all charging stations.

OCTT is a testing tool for OCPP servers or Charging Pilecompanies that perform OCPP communication testing services and can help provide relevant certifications.
Charging Pile Certification
Charging Pile Certification

The import and export certification of electric vehicle and charging facility enterprises in Europe and the United States needs to meet the following standards and regulations around key items such as charging communication protocols, charging facilities and charging interfaces.

  • Communication control system testing standards: ISO 15118-4/-5,DIN SPEC 70121/70122,IEC 61851-1
  • DC charging system testing standards: IEC 61851-1/-23/-24/-x, IEC 61008, ICE 61851-21-2, IEC 62196-1/-3, SAE J1772, UL 2251, UL 2202, CSA C22.2
  • AC charging system testing standards: IEC 61851-1, IEC 62955, IEC 62752, ICE 61851-21-2, ICE 62893, EN 50620, IEC 62196-1/-2, SAE J1772, UL 2251, UL 2594, CSA C22.2

Exporting to Europe requires CE marking; the US requires UL marking, and utility-side projects require additional supplier certification and government access permits.
