Dodgy people have a competitive advantage over good people, owing to their lack of moral integrity: They lie, cheat, steal, etc.? This is why we have law.? The purpose of law - in a democracy - is to incentivise dodgy people to do the “right thing”; or in other words, to be good people.
Unlike dodgy people, good people care for each other, and the world in which they live: they act in the long run best interest of everyone.? Dodgy people on the other hand, act in their own short run best interest, irrespective of the implications for others: they simply don’t care about anything or anyone, other than themselves.
The conventional wisdom in democracy is that good people produce the very best possible outcome, if unencumbered: they look after each other, and the world in which they live.? Clearly, we would need neither law nor government if we were all good people.
Good governments empower good people, with the force of law, to administer the law within their competency fields, on behalf of the state.? They are known as public officials.? Their collective role is to uphold the Rule of Law. Australian governments have however regrettably employed some very dodgy public officials over a very long period of time, who have functioned in their own best interest. They have progressively wound back morality provisions within the law, purportedly on the basis that it is good for the economy, which it is not the case.? This is why Australian governments have lost their moral authority.

Australian governments have been de-regulating over a long length of time. They are doing little more than freeing the dodgy end of town. They have turned to self-regulation, and industry code regulation. Self-regulation is about "rule by the unscrupulous", and industry code regulation is about "rule by the mob".? We should not have to point out to governments of all political persuasions, that their very role in life is to rule; and to rule in the very best interest of the state, not in the best interest of their dodgy mates.
Governments have, at best, given dodgy people what they want, rather than good people what they need: protection from the dodgy end of town.? They are making the dodgy end of town filthy rich at the expense of everyone else, including future generations: they are "robbing them blind". There is little wonder why good people are increasingly having to live in the streets.
Democracy is characterised by a declining cost of, and increasing standard of living. Institutional corruption is characterised by an increasing cost of, and declining standard of living.? Inflation is caused by dodgy people with market power.? All market power in a democracy comes from government; either overtly or covertly.? Inflation just lowers our standard of living.
Our dodgy Prime minister, Mr Anthony Albanese said the other day, with disdain, - in response to a question from the media - that:? “We are not Russia”. ? While we certainly are not Russia, let us not pretend that we are any better than Russia.? We are, at best, just a different colour: Yellow!
