I am working in my current firm for the past 9 years... I have faced many people on my way of this long journey. I do interact with many students who are just passed outs, year backs, different category people in my day to day life. I am writing this to share a few of my experience, sometimes it may remind your past for some people at least. I have been working in the recruitment team since I joined the company so that it helped me to analyse the difference in the generation attitude.
In 2012 or 2011 I am not sure about the year. One of our walk-ins was happening. We were hiring for iOS app development and we were looking for freshers. I still remember that day very clearly. One guy, he has undergone some graduation and has learned Java from somewhere and he walked into our front office by around 9.00 or 9.30 AM. Seeing his profile, a couple of us told him that "Your profile is not matching the current requirement but we will keep your resume and will call you later". Later on, all the interviews were over and we were announcing the results by around 4.00 PM. In between the crowd, I noticed a face which resembles the same person we have seen in the morning.
Suddenly I called him and asked, "you were asked to leave know? why are you still here"
He uttered "Ma'am please give me a chance to attend an interview, even if I don't clear or if you don't have a vacancy that is okay for me"
I was shocked, you may be wondering why! This question he could have asked in the morning itself, or even in between till this time he could have come and asked us, but he didn't do that. He waited till the evening until the rush was over and then he approached us.
I went to the management people and informed about this person. After a long discussion "just give him an interview and let him go". One of my senior developers interviewed him and he again surprised all of us by clearing that interview. But we were not having an opening for that position at that time still we asked him to join the team even without having a second thought. You know why! we may get many more people who know the technology but we may not get a person like him with such a good attitude.
You may be thinking, why am I writing this because this will be a common scenario which many of the recruitment people will have faced.
We should never forget the way we have travelled to attain a better life. People are getting lazier, they forget things very faster. Anyways life has to move on... whatever we do, comes back to us one day. Always keep this in mind that a virus-like COVID-19 can put us into a box in no time. So never let your EGO grow than the great human in you... Support who are less efficient than you and keep going. This life is just one, if you leave a chance now then another may not turn your way.
I have heard this from one of my friends' mother "God or the unknown power has blessed us with certain capabilities which others may not have, You know why? To help others who don't have those capabilities and fill that void space. Let our capabilities useful for someone else to go forward in their life"
With that note, Try to change your attitude for a better cause.
