I've been postponing this article since January 2018. Collecting my thoughts, re editing it frequently since then, not knowing when the time will be right to post it.
Now. The time is now.
Boston has been home since 2011, when I joined Northeastern for my undergraduate degree with big dreams, a persistence to make them happen and the empathy to understand that there were thousands more like me.
All I knew was that this is going to be a journey of self discovery, learning, independence and so much more.
Fast forward to 2018:
3 boxes, 2 suitcases, 1 resume in hand.
Third week of February, I am relocating to Delhi, India.
The reasons are a combination of all the things that shouldn't happen to recent graduates. But, it's life - it happens.
This chapter, started in September 2011 in Boston.
I clearly remember the day my parents dropped me off to my freshman dorm. That was the only time I've felt so scared and alone in my life.
Fears last as long as you allow them to in my opinion.
I battled my fears by over-indulging and keeping an open mind.
I joined campus activities, performed on stage a couple of times, taught English to NU's service staff, became a Big Sister to a child for 2 years, volunteered at Rosie's kitchen and worked 2 co-ops and 2 jobs post-graduation where I learned more about where my professional passions lie.
To summarize 7 years in 3 lines - impossible, but I tried.
I grabbed every opportunity I could to learn and be involved in the community around me.
I'm glad I did. It made every memory sweet and my journey, a story I want to tell.
Over 7 years, I've become a more confident, levelheaded, empathetic woman than I could've imagined. I'm proud of what the journey and the people I've met along the way have made me.
Thank you Boston and it's peeps and everyone on LI, so far, for transforming me into the person I am today. You will be dearly missed.
On to the next chapter... India here I come.
