Chapter 22: Go and get your goals in 2023!

Chapter 22: Go and get your goals in 2023!

Everyone, every year sets goals or resolutions for themselves! It’s human, it’s natural, and maybe it’s a little bit of social pressure or the colloquial word “FOMO”.

But so many of us are going to crash come February or March. Some of us are going to keep it going through the year.

The main difference between the two groups are how they set up their goals. As a person that’s learnt from every year I failed let me share some things that helped me become part of the latter group.

Any goal that you set for yourself need to have 5 things. I know that sounds like a lot, but stay with me!

·????????The goal needs to be specific and not general

·????????It needs to be something that you can reasonably achieve

·????????It needs to be something you want to do.

·????????Something you can track easily

·????????The goals need to be priorities.

If you set out 10 goals for the multiple areas of life each, unfortunately you’ll get overwhelmed.

For me, I have 1-2 goals for each month and 2-3 goals for each area of my life.

Health has 2-3 goals, Personal development has 2-3 goals, professional life has 2 goals, people in my life has 2 goals. ?

Each of them is trackable in a bullet journal that I create myself. But when you’re beginning, get an easy tracker from Amazon, Etsy, or I have a free one on my site.

Your goals also don’t have be set up at the beginning of the year. They also don’t have to be set in stone. If you get to March and realize you have too much on your plate to learn Piano that month that’s okay. You don’t have to go through with it. Pick an easier goal for that month or don’t do any that month. It’s okay.

You’re doing this because you enjoy it, and not because you want to be miserable.

One of my goals this year is to read 30 books. Last year I read 25 books. Now this goal while a stretch, is achievable. I have a tracker set up in my bullet journal, and I’ve already finished one book that bled over from last year and I’m 30% done with my second book. I am not restricting myself to any genre because I read books/genre based on what I feel like reading when I start a new book.

Restricting myself to a genre will make this a miserable experience for me because I like that diversity.

Here’s the tracker I created for myself! Again, remember you don’t have to make tracking your goals complicated. If you find a tracker online you like, go for it. Simple is sustainable when you first start tracking your goals.

Now knowing myself there are books I won’t finish. I will write them on the list starting at 31, but won’t count them towards the 30 books goal and those books will get 1-star rating. That’s me pushing myself outside of complacency.

Whether your goal is to find a new job, learn to play the piano, lose weight or get healthy, you won’t know whether you’re achieving it if you aren’t tracking your progress.?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on what, when, and how to list and reach your goals. We really need to be specific, realistic, and practical as well as look to ourselves if we can really achieve a certain thing. I'm re-writing my checklist now! ??

Last year every single area of my life was derailed halfway through the year. I have a couple of health goals for myself and one family related. That is as much as I feel confident that I can handle this year. I may re-evaluate closer to the middle of the year.

My goal hasn't changed in the last 3 years. I NEED a job. Its not just a want. I need income, I need a job that challenges me so I don't get bored, I need a job with a future so I can grow.
