CHAPTER 2

The mechanism of the google search engine might seem direct and uncomplicated at first.

Google captures the keyword which has been entered in the search bar and seeks amongst billions of stored copies of webpages in their index.

Crawlers, use close to 200 factors to index a page.

To picture the process vividly, imagine the search engine, Google, as a librarian, who gallops in an extreme velocity, through an infinite library, looking for the query, or better said keyword that you are looked for.

Today, this process is being carried out within a fraction of a second.

Do you know why does google perform such heavy tasks within less than a second? (Comment if you know)
Crawler in action :)

So the terms people search, are significantly important in this context.

To figure out, below questions/ subjects must be addressed:

  • What are my category of products/ services, and how is the breakdown to the minimum unit and SKU?

Classification Example

  • Including the keywords, pertinent your classification, for all SKUs!
  • What terminology and wordings my potential customers will use to reach my pages on Google? This requires the knowledge of you from demographics of searchers, to some extent.
  • Prepare an inclusive list of keywords, very thoughtfully
  • Assess your list* and choose effective ones to be mentioned in relevant pages

*Once you have your keyword brief, you are probably eager to get started. An easy way is by investing in an SEO tool. Ahrefs, Semrush, and Moz are three examples.

Let’s take an example by using Ahrefs. Start by typing in a broad keyword, like “sneakers”. For this word, the results show us 476,000 keywords with the monthly search volume in the US.

A bit overwhelming! That is why the best alternative at this point is to filter this down and categorize the different types of keywords in topics and search intent (Source: mynewsdesk.com)

Next, we will discuss keywords types & strategies, content and further useful tools.
