Chapter 14 – Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
Leaders Look Within –? Chapter 14 – Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
?Chapter 14 - ?Summary
This chapter is the technical chapter in the book and covers HRV. For me, it has been a great indicator of where I am at concerning mindset based on stress, activity, diet, and sleep.
For me, it was about purchasing a whoop wearable and looking closer at my energy levels. I learned that my energy levels were typical of someone very reactive and always working from an energy deficit. The key learning for me was that I could become a better person by making improvements in several areas of my life that affect my? Autonomic Nervous System (sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system)
What’s happening in my life right now? (December 2, 2023)
I want to finish 2023 with momentum going into 2024. It is a great time to be with friends and family and get closer in faith, with Christmas just a few weeks away. ?I am evaluating my overall health and determining how to move forward: mind, body, soul, and spirit. ?My health looks much different these days, and I am amazed at the power we have to learn so much in this area and make changes on an ongoing basis. ?
Reflection Questions – Chapter 14
1)??? Are you curious how your body reacts to different types of foods? Have you ever considered a DNA test?

2)??? What if you could wake up and know how much energy you had for the day, and it was based on your sleep, food, and stress from the last 24 hours? Have you ever considered buying a Whoop wearable?
3)??? Have you ever invested in learning more about yourself, the way you think, and the way you act? Have you ever thought of investing in a coach to help you with EQ or mindset?
The reflection questions here were questions I sought out. ?The point of listing them here is to consider taking an inventory of yourself regarding how your body reacts to your DNA and how HRV readings can help you understand your energy and wellness to help you manage your mindset better each day. Finally, emotional intelligence is a crucial principle and one that should be looked at closely to help you better understand who you are and where you want to go. ?
Final Thoughts
I want to bring my A-Game every day. My family deserves it. My workplace deserves it. This means I need to be intentional about my health and find ways to continually help me work toward being physically and mentally healthier. HRV is a concept that resonated with me and helped me bring my health together with metrics.

1 å¹´I've used the Whoop strap for the last 4 years and its been great at helping me know what low HRV feels like and connect the dots of my actions and lifestyle that contribute to it going up or down.
Follow your heart ??
1 年I see what you mean Brent. This past month I had a bad back and that strain went up to back of my neck. I’ve never experienced a month like that. I concluded that it was from overwork and not moving around and stretching and getting outdoors for fresh air. I’m exhausted but not burnt out. My heart is peaceful and my patience with my staff and others are actually improving, believe it or not. I am grateful I have the awareness to acknowledge my state and change my habits to recovery and then not let that happen again. The health of my body is priority #2. My #1 is always the health of my heart and mind being aligned. Today, I’m resting totally with no work. I feel blessed and grateful. Reading your post strengthens my optimism for my life. Thank you ??
