Chapter 14: The domino effect

This month's chapter focuses on what it feels like when things start to click and line up.


The numbers for May + Jun


The naked details

For those of you who have been reading, you'll know February and March were not great for me personally and professionally.

Then April, I turned a corner and had a bit more clarity on what I wanted to do professionally.

Now in May and June, I'm starting to see the fruits of my labor.

I booked a new client in June that's right in my niche and I am just ecstatic!

This feels like just the beginning, and it's not just for my consulting business.

I have a clear vision of who I want to be speaking to, my content is lining up and my sales calls are smoother.

I'm not running around trying to solve every problem.

As the title of this post suggests, the dominos are starting to fall.

It feels really promising to be starting to climb out of consulting "rock bottom".

When you're in the middle of figuring things out, it can be pretty shit*y.

And, for me, it was starting to bleed into other parts of my life.

Because my professional life was unstable, I started to just second guess everything.

Is Amsterdam the right place for us?

Do I even want to be a consultant?

Should I go back to being an FTE?

As soon as I signed that client in June, a bit of the pressure was off.

Looking back, here's a letter I would write to myself:

Dear Sundar,

These things take time. Believe in your vision. Put in the work. Adjust as needed        

Now, I'm not close to where I want to be yet but after experiencing crazy highs last year to crazy lows this year, getting back to some stability in my life is nice.

I've also been less harsh on myself because sales cycles in B2B are so much longer than I'm used to.

When you spend your entire career in consumer growth, you can get pretty immediate feedback.

That's not the case as a solopreneur especially one that's doing consulting.

It will likely take anywhere from 3 months+ to convert and that's okay.

I just have to prepare for it.

Anyway, this is the first update I've written in a while and I forgot how much I loved doing this.

Thanks for reading and I'm hoping to get back to my old cadence of 1x a month.

I'm continuing to focus on my consulting business and am looking for one more client.
