Chaos Inspires Art

Absolute certainty and peace are delusional concepts.
It is chaos that we are all a part of.
It has been so ever since the creation of this universe. No creature really had much control over its existence or extinction.
And it would be foolish of us to expect something so delusional to become a reality in a cosmos whose creation was itself a result of chaos—the big bang.
So, what do we do? Do we accept chaos or fight it?
Maybe, just maybe, we should try creating art out of it every single time we find chaos making us run and panic for our lives.
Be it major historical events such as World War I & II, Black Death (a plague that killed half the world population during the 1300s), and the innumerous civil wars or the future predictions of apocalypse, technology taking over humans, earth dying a slow death or just any chaotic event…
they all inspired some of the best art we today know of.
For example, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, Schindler’s List and thousands of other masterpieces of literature and art wouldn’t have existed if not for the World War.
Half the history we read in school or the stories and poems we adored while sipping on our coffee in the library were either taken from historical wars or inspired by love—a form of beautiful chaos.
And let’s not forget, that we ourselves are so beautifully amazing because of the chaos we hold inside. If everyone were at peace, we’d all be the same. Boring, I’d say. What differentiates us is how we control the chaos in our head and focus it to create something out of it.
There are people who direct the chaos within to create chaos without. But we also have people who use the same chaos to paint graceful illustrations, write heartwrenching poetries, stand up for a cause and be part of a revolution, make movies that beautifully portray that chaos and what not.
Even right now, we’re spearheading into chaos—Covid-19. And we need to let it inspire art. Locked inside with all the free time, let’s write a few poems, sketch the face of our beloved, create a digital art for ourselves, try cooking a new dish, doodle something or read a book.
As I like to say,
when all else fails humans (i.e. when chaos happens), it’s art we fall back to.

4 年Big bang..just a theory...not so sure about that. But it's a mere coincidence that for the past few days I have thinking about living life like Anne Frank did... I think we should all brace ourselves with the biggest canvas of art- 'life'.

4 年Very well said Mohammad. I believe everyone should learn the Art of Ma'at!! It is from the disorder one should learn to discipline and bring everything to the right order. It is our art that shall beautify the broken ugly fragmented soul and bring back life (:

4 年Such a beautiful piece of writing! I agree to each and every word of it. World would have been a boring place without the chaos. We absolutely need it to bring out the best in us.
