Chaos, Carbs and Choices- Navigating Life's Buffet
Through this grand adventure of self-discovery (read binge-watching, devouring copious quantities of carbs, and tiptoeing around my own mood swings), I accidentally stumbled upon a revelation that hit me like a ton of feathers: the fine line between making a choice and taking a decision. It’s like the difference between deciding to dance in the rain or waiting for the storm to pass—subtle, but it can seriously shape our outlook on life.
Let’s talk "choice" first. Ah, the word itself feels like a breeze on a sweltering day—liberating, weightless, and as carefree as a dog chasing its tail. It's the epitome of freedom, giving us the green light to explore options without feeling like we're locked in a cage of consequences. Choosing is like picking your favorite ice cream flavor or where to jet off to for your next adventure.
Now, let’s flip to "decision." Cue the dramatic music because here comes the heavy stuff. Deciding feels like carrying a sack of bricks on your back, knowing that every move you make could have repercussions on yourself and everyone around you. It's a responsibility-ridden, obligation-packed journey where every step forward feels like a commitment carved in stone.
Picture this: a whirlwind of conflicting desires and societal expectations swirling around you like a tornado in a teacup. That's where I found myself during this period, torn between being a "super mom/boss" and hitting the pause button for some much-needed self-care. Spoiler alert: it was chaos.
Amidst this madness, I started to question the whole "having it all" concept. Did I really want everything, or was I just buying into society’s glossy illusion of success? Could I realistically juggle a million roles without sacrificing my sanity along the way?

And then it hit me like a sack of metaphorical bricks: reframing decisions as choices. Suddenly, I wasn’t trapped in a maze of obligations and expectations—I was the master of my own destiny, the commander of my own ship (even if it felt like I was sailing through a storm in a teacup).
Once you embrace a move as a choice, you break free from the chains of should-haves, must-dos, and what-ifs. You can make your choices, learn from them, and pivot to new ones to really align with your goals. Picture a choice like a ramp to a highway that helps you take a bigger journey. It becomes a bold declaration of self-love and preservation; like picking a new adventure from a never-ending menu of possibilities.
And guess what? Life gets a whole lot easier (minus the chaos that comes packaged with Gen Alphas and my own restless soul). I found the compass to navigate through the chaos with some swagger, reclaim my agency, and embrace the rollercoaster ride of personal growth with open arms.
So, here’s the scoop: the power of choice isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about owning them, embracing the messiness, and riding the wave of uncertainty like a pro surfer. Because when we choose authentically and fearlessly, we’re not just living—we’re thriving.

8 个月Eima , quite a piece. I would add, many times its not the babies, but the movement after marriage or marriage itself (still) where many ( have to) make the "decision" . While riding this bus, my realization sets as a mix of feelings, not always the rosy creamy one- game starts when one " comes back." Hope all holds her ship of will strong enough to ride away the gusty wind of societal outlook on hiatus. Hope we can curve a new horizon rightly differentiating " choice" and " decision " So , good you are making your voice out and loud
