Changing Perspectives

When I was young I thought that the smart guys were the ones who had all the answers...as I grew older I realized that the smart guys were the ones that asked insightful questions that could get others figure out the right answers...

When I was young I thought good conversationalists were the ones who could talk easily...as I grew older I realized the good conversationalists were the ones who were good listeners...

When I was young I thought listening was about waiting for the other person to finish speaking...as I grew older I realized listening was about fully understanding what the other person was saying and where she was coming from...

When I was young and most adults that mattered around me were just above 45, I was convinced that money was a bad thing and that money made you forget who you are...as I grew older I realized that anyone over 45  that didn't make money said this. Psychologists called it rationalization, and that if you have money you may forget who you are, but if you don't have it everyone surely forgets who you are...

When I was young I thought wisdom was about having answers to profound questions and sharing them with others like Buddha did...when I grew older I realized wisdom is about figuring out that profound questions have no answers and that eventually there is no answer to an endless series of whys (and hence physics ultimately is really like peeling an onion or searching for the secret scroll)...

When I was young I thought not knowing something was a sign of weakness ...as I grew older I realized I respect those that can easily say "I don't know" a lot more...

When I was young I thought strategy (for the non corporate folks it is lingo for grand plans) was what mattered...as I grew older I realized that strategy comes easy, but execution (making it happen through perspiration) is the differentiator...

When I was young I thought life should have a purpose...when I grew older I realized how naive I was...

Nice read, loved the flow of the writing which expresses the feeling ! The list keeps growing as we get older every day - not because of the age but because of the experience we gain on every new day and do an introspection of it (We should be open to experience the new day as well as allow ourselves to introspect rather than stereotyping and running behind something to pass it as just another day :) )
