Changing Perceptions by Celebrating Life – Funding Support Request.
During 2019 I had the pleasure of working with the Day Care team at Strathcarron Hospice in Denny, part of which involved me taking portraits of the patients and them receiving a framed print of their favourite photograph to share with their family. Encouragingly some of the photographs displayed at a recent Palliative Care conference in Edinburgh received very positive responses from those attending.
Over the course of the year, more than fifty people shared some amazing uplifting stories and showed me and many others that a big part of hospice care is about celebrating life and maybe not quite what we may think.
I am now working with the Hospice to develop an exhibition of approximately thirty photographs that will capture the amazing people who attend the hospice day care service and positively celebrate life. Along with each photograph, there will be a message from the person or their family explaining in their words what the hospice means to them, with the ultimate aim to develop this project so it can be transported around and updated over time.
To enable this to happen we are seeking support to secure £3k in funding to allow us to develop the exhibition and take it to the public around central Scotland to provide a positive perception of what hospice care really is.
If you, someone you know or as a business are interested in supporting the hospice to fund or part-fund the project please get in touch with me for more information.
I did a blog on my experience and why I personally got involved and you can view some of the photographs there (Blog).
The photo below gives a taster of the good humour and bond shared between day care patients and staff and provides a telling insight into how Strathcarron Hospice celebrates life.
