Changing our spots

The incomparable Virginia Satir wisely said, "There is no one in the world, regardless of the conditions in which he lives, who cannot change".
I absolutely love this message because it reflects in such a clear and deliberate way what I do every single day and the path I have chosen to dedicate my life’s work towards – helping people make meaningful, effective and lasting change in their lives.
This deep-rooted passion and belief that people, all people, can change, resonates in everything I do, brings me tremendous joy and fulfillment and is a privilege I take in my personal and professional life very seriously and responsibly.
For us to achieve our goals, this belief is a wholehearted essential prerequisite. It has to be there!
I have always loved and appreciated the phrase "up until now".
It enables me to consider that just because I was a certain way, or thought a certain thought, or behaved a certain way, doesn't mean that that has to continue eternally as I'm moving forward. In fact, the entire coaching process is committed to moving from where we are now and what we've done up until now, to where we want to be, and that requires change on multiple levels.
(And that is such a powerful and awesome idea. Just because I was, does not determine who I am now or who I have the capacity of becoming in the future).
If we want to achieve a result in any area of our life, it requires change in our immediate ecology or environment, it requires change in our behaviors and daily habits, it requires change in our learning, abilities and the development of new skills and knowledge, it requires change in our priorities regarding our values, it requires change in our attitude, in our limiting beliefs that most likely hold us back and keep us stuck, it requires change in our perception of who we are and who we need to be regarding our identity and it requires a bigger vision of how achieving the result I want can deeply benefit others and the world in some meaningful way.
To accomplish any dream, something has to change. (Or, let’s face it - I’ll continue to have exactly what I have now).
If you are skeptical about this declaration, here is a gift.
Ask yourself:
What is the consequence for my goals and my dreams if I continue to believe that people can’t change?
Is it absolutely true that people can’t change? (Like 100% true)
Where can I bring a specific example from my life of where I once thought I couldn’t change, and I ultimately did?
What is more important to you than believing you can’t change?
Is the real issue that you can’t change, or is the real issue that for some reason, you refuse to change?
What do you gain by believing that you can’t change? How does this serve you?
How would you know if the opposite were true: that people change all the time?
How can your answers and insights propel you forwards and support you in taking one step towards your own transformation.
In my work, I feel so incredibly humbled, honored and blessed to witness courageous change in real-time.
I see my clients strive for their goals and dreams where they tackle deep beliefs about themselves and the world that prevent them from achieving incredible success. Using NLP and other powerful tools that enable shift and drive change, we can do some pretty amazing and hard things.
You can run that race, lose those pounds, enjoy a new & loving relationship, travel, advance at work, thrive in your family and career, stop an addiction, look after yourself, buy that home, change jobs, declutter your life, become vegan, keep Shabbat, move cities, grow your confidence, become a high performer, manage your time efficiently, resolve a conflict, grow your business, launch your business, start a new hobby or sport, volunteer, get involved in your community, make time for fun, write that book, enhance your communication, strengthen a competency or talent, bring passion back into your life, shift that negative mindset, get off the couch, wake up earlier, worry less, laugh more, breathe easier, go back to school, take risks, make mindful choices… the list is ultimately endless.
So, my question to you is this:
What belief is more helpful to you?
The belief that we can’t change who we are.
OR
The belief that “There is no one in the world, regardless of the conditions in which he lives, who cannot change".
The choice is always yours.
At any given moment, you have the power to decide that this is not where your story is going to end.
We are designed to grow.
Unlike this exquisite animal, we can change our spots.
It's up to you.
Let me know how I can support you.
