Changing the Narrative
In May 2019, I had the honor and privilege of participating in the State House Advocacy Day and speaking to hundreds of facility owners, frontline employees, residents and family members, and legislators on behalf of the catastrophic financial crisis facing the nursing home industry. I told my story from a vendor's perspective and how the underfunding affected our business and extended beyond the walls of nursing homes. I was among many other dedicated, hardworking, passionate, and caring people who got the chance to share their incredibly heartwarming stories. Throughout my twenty-five-year career in sales for Geriatric Medical, a medical supply company to the Post Acute world, I have witnessed firsthand the fantastic hard work and sacrifice of many great organizations and people to provide a safe home, and a wonderful experience for someone's loved one at that stage of life. Sadly, my Dad passed away fifteen years ago at the age of seventy from Cancer. He spent his final days in a nursing home peacefully and with dignity. Unfortunately, seldom is a good story, and stories too often tend to define us. We have to be the ones who determine the narrative in our account, and it should be highly positive and promising.?
You are an important advocate for our residents, families and employees. Bless you!!!

3 年Thank you for this post, Gary. It's hard to believe that lobbying is necessary to secure adequate government funding to provide quality care for the generation of people who built the the country we have today for us, but here we are. Thank you for your efforts!
