Changing Lives Through Virtual Mental Health Education

I realized today, as I was doing quality assurance in our mental well-being library, that the content has endless potential to impact people's lives by increasing mental health literacy and emotional intelligence. That was the initial vision. However, not all visions actualize.

The Spirence library combines high-valued education, hundreds of collective years of direct patient care experience, talent, and passion and compiles it into 15-minute lessons on a variety of mental health topics. What would cost an employee thousands of dollars to learn over years in school or outpatient therapy is provided by their employer as a covered benefit. As I watched the videos and read through the production scripts not only was I moved by the quality of content but by each presenter. The willingness to share a piece of their inner genius in order to normalize and simplify mental health for the masses is inspiring. Employers nationwide offering this level of mental health education and support to their workforce is equally as inspiring.

Picture an experienced mental health professional explaining complex topics like trauma, PTSD, problem gambling, eating disorders, the neuroscience of addiction, meditation, mindfulness, and family recovery in a way that you can understand and in 15 minutes. Then think of a colleague or employee who may be struggling either personally or with a loved one. Imagine them logging in, seeing the topic that relates, watching the lesson, hearing what they need, and then walking away with hope and the motivation for change. That was the vision that has become the Spirence mental wellbeing library.
