Changing Generational Dynamics
Have been wanting to address this issue badly since it is a point of discussion in current times when all from 90 years old to newly born have been deeply impacted by this 'out of blue' blindsighted phenomenon called Covid - 19.
Just to make discussion structured I wish to discuss the changing dynamics/perspectives wrt to a few Big Phenomenon which has impacted us deeply in last 10 years and shall continue to impact us for a decade or two easily.
I am selecting these topics basis my own confusions, observations, work premise discussions & covered deeply via social media, etc. They are Digital & Tech, Moral Values, Family & Parenting, Money & Economics, Mental Health, Overlapping of Passions in One's Life, Self Belief over Social Beliefs.
(Flagging is for the concern for the specific topic wrt current & upcoming Generations)
Digital & Tech : Green Flag - Perhaps the most powerful in terms of impact where the age is inversely proportional to your Tech Knowhow. But the most appreciating aspect is how the older Generations have adapted to the new order & continue to do so. My 90 year old Grand Mom who only prefers video calling now to audio call/chat is the biggest example. Future is Tech & vice versa and no humans will be irreplaceable despite all those myopic stories where robots shall rule us. Just we have to be respect humans more & trust the human qualities more.
Money & Economics : Orange Flag - Herein one observes that critical changes & adaptations that happen are not majorly in individual's hands & are mostly ruled via a majority census. While the earlier Generations were high on savings, the younger generations are high on Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) to match to global standards. Below snapshot shall give more insights :
Moral Values : Red Flag - My Biggest Concern where the maximum degradation has happened and we all need to buck up. While the earlier Generations were more honest, straight forward, simple in life style, more compassionate, satisfied with basic means, family & community based ; the later Generations are more focussed on better means for leading a quality lifestyle. Being in a posh locality mansion is considered more desirable from living with family in a rented apartment on the outskirts from status perspective. Latter is given less value & looked down upon. Not sure if this is how simply we should educate our minds to consider life & human more or less worthy.
Family & Parenting : Red Flag - I absolutely agree with Simon Sinek when he says that Millenials & even Gen Z have been let down by an exaggeratedly wrong parenting style. To teach kids that following rules is more important than inner voice or inert talent is corrupting society. To stress them out for running & excelling in Rat race is equivalent to quashing their dreams. Have hopes on these later Generations to let kids discover own professions while encouraging them genuinely & just guiding them with right values.
Mental Health : Red Flag Big one - How did we land here is my question wrt Mental Health? Not sure if we blaming is the right strategy here but in my understanding the current & upcoming Generations have kind of self imposed this on themselves. Firstly just feeling low or different from others or not succeeding is not depression neither life changing. Since our population has grown exponentially with tools like internet, smartphone hence they should get better aware & supportive about each other's issues. But somehow reverse seems to be happening due to persistent negativity, over opinionated individuals, power structures, etc. But am hopeful with increasing awareness, more structured communication.
