Changing the game: Holoplot and Creative Technology collaborate on Nintendo Live

Nintendo events have always been a burst of fun, but this year’s Nintendo Live experience at PAX West in Seattle took things to a whole new level and it wasn't just because of Mario’s high jumps or Link's heroic adventures. This time it was the power of sound that brought the gaming magic to life, thanks to a collaboration between HOLOPLOT and Creative Technology .

The iconic melodies of The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario were orchestrated live by a 50-piece ensemble at Nintendo Live, but delivering this auditory experience amidst the bustling atmosphere of a gaming convention is no small feat. That's where Holoplot's X1 Matrix Array stepped in, revolutionising the way sound can be experienced in a crowded space.

The sound designer for the show, Peter Lewis from AUDISEE MEDIA and Ralph I. Miller , creative executive producer at Ralph Miller Productions, were already familiar with Holoplot technology having used Holoplot at Nintendo’s launch event for Luigi’s Mansion with a featured immersive attraction at E3 2019.? An Orion system, Holoplot’s first product, was used to create multiple sound effects and targeted audio for the highly-themed environment. Since then, Lewis and Miller have been very interested in X1 and its capabilities and were looking for projects to use it in. “Nintendo Live presented the perfect opportunity,” said Miguel Hadelich , Holoplot’s head of sales and operations US.?

“I love how Holoplot has been transforming what is possible in the world of audio,” said Miller. “The customisation and flexibility this advanced tech provides is changing how we design audio for a wide range of spaces. Being able to give the audience a high-quality concert experience in the middle of a bustling gaming convention was our objective. The X1 performed above everyone’s expectations—it was quite impressive.”

The CT US team, led by audio project manager Darron Weasler, employed Holoplot Plan’s 3D interface to create a system that dynamically adjusted the sound coverage area without having to physically rearrange the setup.

By strategically deploying the X1 MD96 and MD80-S per side, along with two MD96 as a centre array, the team ensured that every note was crisply delivered while containing the sound within the intended audience space. And the result? The live orchestral music was not just enjoyable; it was an experience. It didn't overshadow neighbouring areas, maintaining the high-energy atmosphere Nintendo Live is famous for.

So, while Mario kept jumping and Link kept fighting, it was the symphonic magic conducted by Holoplot that truly changed the game at Nintendo Live. It's safe to say; the future of audio technology is looking as vibrant and thrilling as the gaming universe itself.

Thje result was quite remarkable. The symphony was rich and stroing in the area oif the stage and didn't adversely interfere with the rest of the 120,000 sq ft space! Never could have done it with traditional speakers
