Energy Transition, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Smart Grid, New Business Models / Privatization, Renewables, Open Access, Electric Vehicles, Energy Storage, Tariff Restructuring, or any other, what will be majorly disrupting the power distribution sector in next 5 or 10 years to strengthen the distribution network & consumer services and at same time improve the Discom's financial and operational efficiency ??
- Experts may have different answers with multiple combination of above options and may also include an answer of selecting all above. But undoubtly there can be a consensus that all of the above options in one or other form are the need of hour and will strengthen the sector.
- In view of multi-stream development in the sector, there is a need for uniform vision for the sector across country, where sector is heading, what are the core issues to resolve, what is the readiness required in terms of technology and infrastructure for next 20 years and what are the goals for next five years and ten year needs to be articulated considering all the existing factors and upcoming trends. Some experts may say, it is too early to predict or speculate on the trends and targets due to multiple dependencies and difference in maturity level of Discom's. But, importance of this long term planning can not be ignored, for the sector consistent and measurable growth .
- With this, when the industry is in process of learning and adopting all these new streams of sector, is industry missing anything, which can make whole transformation with these streams easy and faster.
The answer may be there or may be not, but worth thinking...
