The Changing Dynamics of Corporate Learning and Development.

Personalized approach

The field of learning and development has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. With advancements in technology and changes in the job market, the way people learn and develop their skills has also evolved. In India and across the globe, the focus has shifted towards more personalized and flexible learning opportunities.

The Global Rise of E-Learning

According to a report by Research and Markets, the global e-learning market is expected to reach $336.98 billion by 2026, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1% from 2018 to 2026. The rise of e-learning platforms and mobile learning apps has made it easier for learners to access educational resources from anywhere, at any time. This has led to an increase in self-paced learning and a shift away from traditional classroom-based training.

Digital Learning Initiatives in India

In India, the government has taken steps to promote digital learning and increase access to education. The Digital India campaign aims to provide digital infrastructure and connectivity to all citizens. The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) offers free online courses in engineering, science, and humanities. The SWAYAM platform provides over 2,000 courses from top universities and institutions in India.

The Remote Effect

The COVID-19 pandemic has also accelerated the adoption of digital learning worldwide. In a survey by McKinsey & Company, 87% of executives said they were experiencing skill gaps in the workforce, and 79% said they were struggling to find the right talent. As a result, many organizations have turned to online learning to upskill their employees and stay competitive.

Building Corporate Blueprint

One example is IBM. In 2020, the company announced the launch of Open P-TECH, a free digital learning platform that offers courses in emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, and cybersecurity. The platform is aimed at high school and college students, as well as those seeking to reskill or upskill for new job opportunities.

Another example is McDonald's. The fast-food giant has partnered with online learning platform, Coursera, to offer a free college tuition program to its employees in the US. The program covers the cost of tuition and fees for eligible courses at select community colleges and universities.

In conclusion, As a CEO, HR head, or Learning and Development head, it's crucial to adapt to the changing dynamics of learning and development by taking the necessary actions and closely considering a shift towards personalized and flexible learning opportunities.
