This session focused on the updates in the Level 5 Operations Manager and Level 3 Team Leader standards, aimed at addressing confusion around themes, knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs), while improving alignment with real workplace needs.

Key updates include:

  1. Name Simplifications: Operations Manager (formerly Operations and Departmental Manager) and Team Leader (formerly Team Leader/Supervisor), creating easier reference and recognition for employers and apprentices.
  2. Thematic Adjustments: Themes have been clarified and condensed to better reflect real-world competencies, such as “Operational Planning” and “Organisational Governance” for Operations Manager, and “Using Technology” and “Contributing to a Project” for Team Leader.
  3. KSB Realignments: Gateway Qualifications has simplified KSB numbering, reducing overlap and creating clearer guidance for meeting assessment requirements.

Enhanced Project and Presentation Requirements

One significant change for the Level 5 Operations Manager is the requirement to complete a project during the on-program period, evaluated later through a report in the EPA phase. This update encourages practical, real-time application of skills. The Level 3 Team Leader’s assessment includes a structured presentation on topics like cost efficiency or team performance, prepared with support from Gateway Qualifications.
