Be the change you want to see!

As the only, college graduate in my family I had a lot of “firsts”; first to go to college, first to graduate with three (soon to be four) degrees.?My husband was also required to complete his bachelor’s degree. As a founding rule in our marriage, both my husband and I determined, without even thinking about it, that our kids would have college degrees and that we would eat, breath and sleep education into our daily lives to make it normal.?

It worked!?Education comes up in our conversations on a daily basis just as easily as the name of the latest popular song or movie.?I have literally been in school since I met my husband and my kids have never known me too not be in school (my oldest daughter is 21). So, when we talk about who’s doing what, we all talk about our education plan: my daughter wants to sit out a year to catch her breath before she starts her Master’s degree.?My son graduates high school in May and already has his college and major chosen and knows what his career plan is.

As for mom…I’m taking a very well-deserved break, although I know I’ll be going after one more degree. I guess you could say, I’m addicted to education and I’ve created in my children, the change I wanted to see!

Kimberly Hubbard currently serves as an instructional dean for the largest community college in Texas, with oversight of IT and Visual Communications programs.?She also serves as a professor. With over 20 years of experience in both the private and public sector, her area of expertise is in the field of information technology and information security. She has held a variety of managerial and administration positions in IT operations, IT training, IT resource management, business management and education. Dean Hubbard also owned her own business, Hubbard Group and Associates, which specialized in IT recruiting, training and systems administration. She holds a BS in Physics from LSU-Shreveport, an MBA and an MS in Information Systems and Security from Our Lady of the Lake University. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the field of organizational leadership at Our Lady of the Lake University. Writing is her passion and she loves to share the beauty of writing with the world!
