Will there be a change in what managers look for when hiring?
In 2021, my client’s live roles have prioritised people with relevant experience who can connect the dots. The need for someone with relevant asset class or company experience has been crucial. Clients are now seeking those who bring new ideas and existing knowledge to the position and require limited training. So, has the landscape of hiring changed since the beginning of the pandemic?
In recent years, 65% of our client’s requirements have required an education qualification. Often a business/mathematical related degree with a pass mark of 2:1 or above were required. As a result, the candidates with no or little experience, but with a strong academic record, would secure roles and embark on a comprehensive training programme.
For inexperienced candidates there is a way they can stand out from the crowd – personality and team fit. With the latest lockdown in place, a return to London is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Will this change the view that personality and team fit are still as important for future hires? Or will experience become the driving force? My prediction is that team fit is crucial either working in the office or at home. With people feeling uneasy about the pandemic, it is key to make work feel as normal as possible. New hires need to assimilate into the team, which is crucial to onboarding and success rates.
I am keen to hear your thoughts on future hiring. Have you seen requirements change since the pandemic? Please vote and leave comments, I feel like this is an important topic of conversation.
