We all have problems in our lives, and with problems comes stress. Stress is not something that one can remove from his/her life, but it is something that can be managed. Over the past years, I have helped numerous professionals manage stress by using the following three perspectives; you have a time limit, know your timeline, and imagine the size of the universe.
The first perspective is to know that you have limited time on the phase of this planet, you are here temporary and can die at any time. The average time span for humans these days is 75 years and if you are lucky you may live up to 100 years. By understanding that you have limited time and by comparing your problems to the limited time that we have, we can realize that it is not worth stressing over our problems. By focusing on the bigger picture, which is, the limited time that we have to spend with our families, our friends, and our loved ones; our problems seem negligible.
The second perspective is to know your timeline. How significant would your problem be from one week from now, or two weeks from now or a month from now. By recalling the timeline, you can understand the stress you are going through may not be that significant when you’ll look at it in the hindsight. We all have the tendency to overthink our problems, by imagining how significant would our problem be after some time from now; we can focus on the solution of our problem rather than overthinking.
The third perspective is to look at the sky, look at the millions and millions of stars and the end-less galaxies, and then look at the size of the earth and then the size of our problem. By imagining the entire universe, one can understand there is so much that life has to offer than our silly problems.
Next time if you are facing a problem or you are in stress, try using these three perspectives and see if it helps you lower your stress level.
