After an amazing two decades with Anixter, I now have an opportunity to broaden my horizons and explore new possibilities. For those of you that experienced the Anixter culture over the last 60 years, be it as a customer, a supplier, or an employee; you hopefully have witnessed the same as I: An organization that has adapted, innovated, and evolved through its people, to become a world leader in connected infrastructure, not only a value-added distributor but also a global services organization.
So many lessons learned from so many people throughout my Anixter global journey, of which there are quite a few that really stand out. I have learned, as we sell, promote, or deliver various shapes of technology to our continually changing world, it is important to not overlook the big picture and our purpose. Is our objective to only increase profit, and maximize production, or is it also to create value and offer industries and communities we serve an enhancement to their current state, through a culture that is defined by our behavior?
The people that worked at Anixter, demonstrated a behavior, empowered by a guiding set of principles, in the form of a “blue book”. This small booklet helped to nurture and encourage a purposeful and ethical demeanor and contributed to unwritten loyalty and trust amongst thousands of employees. There are many great references in the Anixter Blue Book, but there is one that has made uncertainty more assured and intentional: “There is nothing so constant as change. Everything must change to grow. So, we welcome change because… CHANGE = OPPORTUNITY = GROWTH.”
I have always embraced change, whether it be moving from country to country for love and work, exploring new cultures, or adapting and taking on new projects.
With so many roads yet explored, I am excited by transformation, innovation, and the opportunity to continue to architect services that translate technology into business.
