Change is not necessarily always good... especially, if intended recipients' are affected negatively. Schooling in SA...

I have 2 questions, which have been bugging me for a very long time because things do not look too good for the education system in SA. In fact things seem to be deteriorating with every passing year and we seem to be mere spectators and that cannot be correct, right?

  Questions:-

 1. Why did the government do away with #teacher_colleges?

If I'm not mistaken these institutions use to prepare the new teachers' for the classroom environment, which included “real time practical training” or commonly known as practicals (these teachers were also known as #Student_Teachers). Schools could also call on these institutions when/if they had a shortage of teachers. Once their prep was done and they were certified ready, they were then deployed where there was a need; and

 2. Why did the government divide the department of education into 2 departments i.e. #DBE and #DHET?

Are the answers to these questions and many other factors; not the root causes/structural cracks contributing, if not causing the #teacher_student_crisis and many other issues such as #low_performance in the #education_system; with very weak to no #school_functionality, poor to no #teacher_content_knowledge, #not_enough_learning_time for the kids and #unresolved_union_issues are not assisting, either.

After highlighting all these issues, it's almost certain that we are not doing too well in Africa.

Having said that... I do however need to mention that some parents are also contributing to the current crisis by not parenting their children. It is clear that teachers are simply not capacitated to deal with such issues. And the #Childrens_Act, 2005 (Act no.38 of 2005)... is also from a legal point of view confusing parents/kids relationships and their roles and the extent thereof.

 *thinking out very loudly*
