Change
Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher of the late 6th century BC., said, “no man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man. ” ‘Panta Rhei’ is ancient Greek and means ‘everything flows’ attributed to Heraclitus, which is used to express the idea that everything flows, everything changes.
It is never clear when one is at the peak or the bottom. Right now, someone could be sitting at the very peak of life or the very bottom of life, and the scary truth is one would never know which is which. Any modification to that situation could bring a very different dynamic to that situation.?Change can happen instantly or over time gradually. For this reason, the only key to long-term success is continuous acceptance to change by learning, growth, and evolution. As Charles Darwin correctly hypothesized, the species most likely to survive are those that adapt most efficiently to change. It is never the strongest or the smartest that survive. It is always the ones that evolve best to change.
As for organizations, it is well-known that their survival, growth and competitiveness, especially during turbulent times such as these, depend on their ability to manage change and the agility to change rapidly. Our ability to trust ourselves, learn, adapt, and change allows us to be flexible and survive.
Training and development, whether formal, on the job or self-learning, is critical to navigating through crises such as we are facing now. Such enhancement of knowledge boosts the ability to change with a positive attitude and with acceptance of any change. As the saying goes, “Where there are gaps in knowledge, fear fills the void”. Learning and the adaptability to change boosts confidence and performance.
