Change Matters

Change is a journey – an ongoing, continuous process

If you’re anything like me and you thrive on change, expect it and accept it, you’ll have been exercising that capacity a lot this year!

Why Change?

Change is an ongoing process, not an event. It's part of progress and vital for realising potential. The world is transforming every day…and the pace of change is like nothing we have experienced before. We are standing on the edge of a huge leap in the evolution of humanity. The recent impact of Covid-19 has forced people and organisations to adapt and make changes- ways of working have changed, priorities have changed, beliefs and expectations have changed, and the future is less and less predictable

It is our response to change and the actions we take that makes all the difference. To capitalise on opportunities presented requires a radical shift in mindset, behaviours, and approach

The way we adapt to change defines our level of success

How we perceive and respond to change will make the biggest difference

Through change comes opportunity, and those who adopt a growth mindset and can learn, unlearn, and relearn will capitalise on this. The choices we make about where and how we lead ourselves is becoming increasingly significant, and by investing in our own evolution we can facilitate and reinforce our ongoing success

Leadership Matters

?Change Management starts with Great Leadership

Sometimes even a small change can make a big difference and you will realise the benefits of what you do now and consistently going forward

As organisations evolve over time it is the balance between stability and change that will enable the realisation of full potential and change leaders should present the change effort in a way that the people can embrace change. True leaders are changemakers – they inspire others to unite around a common cause to create change and establish a flourishing environment to optimise growth, performance and team dynamics

The Inspiration advantage

“People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision”

John Maxwell

Leadership has taken on a new dimension, with changed mindsets and behaviours from employees, customers, and consumers.

The best leaders have the agility to embrace change and actively shape and recreate the future of their organisations through the recovery and beyond, with a raised awareness of the importance of leading with courage, compassion, and commitment.

Growth leaders need a resilient mindset and people-centred response and interactions to effectively navigate the now, plan the recovery and lead in the face of unpredictable challenges. The importance of putting people at the centre of our organisations is paramount and by playing to and valuing the individual and collective strengths of people in your team, you can accelerate and underpin enduring success. People need to understand the reasons for change. It is the organisations who demonstrate strategic and inspirational leadership during disruption and complexity who will thrive and proactively lead change

Great leaders build strong relationships

In many companies the pandemic served to unite people – they felt closer through their common purpose and worked collaboratively at pace with new-found agility, challenging bureaucracy, taking initiative, and working courageously with creativity. Leaders discovered and developed capabilities they never knew they had, supporting each other, and tuned into the importance of humanism and what matters most

People are the ultimate competitive advantage

In their new book, Humanocracy, ‘Creating Organisations as amazing as the people inside them’, Gary Hamel and Michele Zanini challenge the outdated principles of bureaucracy and explore the power of human beings to create resilient organisations fit for the future, that can outrun change, putting people at the heart, promoting entrepreneurial leadership and reconnecting to capabilities driven by passion and inspiration

Great Leaders create movements fuelled by passion and purpose

The next normal may require a new set of skills, habits and capabilities, and in the face of remote working people may need support and new ways of working. Leaders will need to build trust, confidence, and connection

When employees reconnect to purpose…

something that inspires us and that needs and deserves the best of who we are

...they commit with a new level of ownership and discretionary effort

Leading with humanism, building purpose, motivation and belonging, leaders can inspire and enable everyone to be the best they can be, making the work environment a better place and drive progress

Whilst every individual and team will be different when people feel heard and appreciated are connected to a sense of meaning, and their efforts and successes are recognised full potential can be realised

“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”    Ralph Waldo Emerson

Great Leaders Listen

Changemakers realise they don’t have all the answers – they listen and gather feedback, they engage and support everyone involved in the change, giving them a sense of control and a clear understanding of how their contribution makes a difference- everyone is accountable and has a role to play!

Great Leaders bring out the best in everyone

Change happens one person at a time….and people need time to adapt to change

Inspirational leadership is about finding ways to develop the potential of those you lead in a way that works for them and encouraging others to push themselves, tap into their strengths to achieve more and reach that potential

“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself.
When you become a leader, success is all about growing others”

Jack Welch

Great Leaders enable change

They take action…and inspire others to

Show up. Commit. …and know you can course-correct along the way

  •  Where is the growth potential in your people and your organisation?
  • What new possibilities can you capitalise upon?
  • Where can you revitalise ways of thinking, working, and behaving?

Agree with all of this Jonathan! The path to success through great Leadership of people and embracing change to evolve for the better is arguably the same now as it was pre-Covid; but whereas before it would be a company’s point of difference, 2020 has shown how it’s a necessity to survive ... And the biggest fall out for some Leaders from this pandemic may come once we’re out the other side and people migrate away from them those that didn’t get the human side of this right...
