Change and its opportunity cost

Some don’t like change because the change would mean a loss for them. But, what would be the opportunity cost? What if what you are losing today is something that you can win tomorrow?

Isn’t having the choice to choose feels liberating? Whether that is changing to accept our reality or even changing to be brave enough to look out for something different.

It’s interesting to see how some of the people who like change the most actually envy those who have stability, and those who love stability actually envy those who have this ability to adapt to change so easily, even look for it, strive it.

“The grass is always greener on the other side,” they said.

Those who need stability would think that change would make them so much carefree, less worried, flowing easily through life, but is it really like that?

While those who need constant change may tend to think that it would look so much easier to just stay in that same place, same job, living by the same rules, having enough with what we already have, being fully satisfied, but is it really like that?

Although we might feel good about ourselves and our lives right now, we assume a lot about how the other’s situation may look like and therefore we tend to think that the other is always in a better place than we are.

Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions… what a tricky thing. No evidence nor proof but still looking so true, like meant to happen.

This is a reason why I like coaching. Coaching helps people think about those necessary questions that will help eliminate all the unnecessary assumptions so that we can finally start believing, believing in others, and believing in ourselves.

Believe enough in yourself so that if you’d like change to happen be brave enough to go and look for it. And, if you strive for stability then make sure you are working and doing everything you can to get at least some of it.

Remember there is a big difference between knowing you can do it and believing you can do it, so let’s never forget that our courage needs to be bigger than our fears, and that nothing is impossible, but that we just need to do something different to make it possible!
