Change - it's good isn't it?
How do you feel about change?

Change - it's good isn't it?

Change, it’s a funny old thing isn’t it

Positive or negative change can have some funny consequences whether you like them or not.

It seems like we have all been working with change for the longest sustained period for a long time, I know I have.

In so many ways it has been really positive.

We have won lots of new work, we are increasing our team??again and we are developing new routes to work.

I have a new book, the Shonky Gimbal Show and loads of other stuff happening.

Change is good.

Change is renewal

Isn’t change hard!

Over the last 14 years I think I have seen it all.

The stories I can tell you.

The hard times and the good times, the ups and the downs and the rough and the smooth and it is still not smooth sailing always.

Every new change or development brings its own successes and its own challenges.

But change is hard isn’t it.

Even if you want it.

We have lots of new people that have and are joining us and we will make lots of new stories and have a different journey to travel.

A journey that I have planned and couldn’t be more excited about.

But change is hard.

I have some friends who have divorced and remarried.

Change in some instances (not in some others) was hard.

I’ve watched, people re-invent themselves, their families, their jobs and their very purpose.

Sometimes because they have had to, sometimes because they wanted to.

It’s unbalancing change isn’t it, even if you want it.

Not better or worse, just different.

I wanted change.

I actively worked towards it

I have a plan

I know the targets I want to reach.

I’m scared.

Will I be able to pull it off – this re-imagining of what we are and what we can be.

Do I have the skills, the patience and the adaptability to make it work?

Ask me again in a year or two?

I can’t answer – I have confidence but not surety.

Isn’t that what change is about, a removal of surety.

And in that lies the excitement.

Maybe, perhaps.

Last night me and my youngest watched Dr Pimple Popper.

I say we watched , it was like a punishment, I was morbidly fascinated and have decided you can make a programme out of anything, she watched it between her fingers.

Wanting to see it, but not really wanting to see it.

Change is like that I think.

You want it to happen but you want it to stay the same in a funny way.

I am striding into change.

I’ve removed my fingers and I’m embracing it whole heartedly.

It’s scary, but

Isn’t that what makes being in business exciting?

The possibilities

The ability to change

The desire to change?

What do you think?

Some people like sameness my husband is a great example and some like difference. I like difference so I see change as a friend

In any change programme you need to get the “baseline” right and ensure that people are ready to change with you. Some years ago I was a “secondary consultant” working on a change programme with a Canadian Provincial Government. We implemented a confidential staff survey and people told the truth….. all sorts of horrible and negative stuff! The “primary consultants” refused to disclose the data to the client, as it would reflect badly in the work they had already done. Waste of time (and money) followed!

Change can be a scary thought! Lots has changed in my life over the last 12 months. Looking back I am amazed at my resilience. Looking forward, I see taking a leap of faith has led to an exciting happy future.
