Interviews are good ... You've got to get interviews to get your next job.
But conversations are way better than interviews.
Most interviews mainly consist of an interviewer asking you questions and you answering them.
When you transform an interview into a conversation, now both you and the interviewer are exchanging ideas how to solve an employer's problems and improve their operations/ productivity. That's why conversations are more likely to win you the job than just interviews.
While this is true for all job search situations, but especially true if you're unemployed.
Look at it this way - Conversations can form the emotional response that cause hiring managers to think "I need you on my team" ...
... While interviews are used to justify why the employer turns a candidate down and doesn't hire them.
Ask yourself this: Try to recall a time that an interviewer went through their standard list of questions for the interview, maybe answered a few of your questions. How often did that turn into an offer?
Probably never, because you weren't really being considered for the job, even though you had an interview. You probably didn't advance in the hiring process very often. That's why all you got was the standard list of questions.
Now ask yourself: Try to recall a time when your interview was a conversation with the hiring manager. Not just a conversation about you ... but a conversation about a hiring managers' problems, how you could solve them, and how you could help your hiring manager improve the performance of their team/department/company. How often did that conversation advance you in the hiring process (probably not every single time, but often, right)?

And how many times did you get a job offer after a great conversation with the hiring manager? I'll bet you can think of at least a few times, can't you?
This has nothing to do with your qualifications - the other candidates who got interviews were just as qualified as you.
But it has everything to do with how effectively you sold yourself in your resume to gain enough hiring manager interest, so they wanted to have a conversation, rather than an interview.
After you gain a hiring manager's interest it's critical for you to show a hiring manager (in your resume and during your conversation) that you understood their needs, had already solved similar problems, and how your solution created a significant improvement to the teams, departments, and companies you worked for.
Were you able to give one example? Or were you able to give so many examples that the hiring manager would have been crazy to offer someone else the job?
So how can you turn interviews into job-winning conversations? You'd already be doing this if you knew how ... but since you don't, let me show you.
I help people solve the most difficult job search problems, including getting past ATSs, ageism, remote positions, product/job function/career/industry/ geographic change, job search acceleration, unemployment, "bouncy" recent career path, job search turnaround, seeking raise/promotion, industry in decline/consolidation, long term gaps, family leave, or other of the most challenging job search issues.
