Change is Inevitable: A Witty Dive into the Flow of Time

"Change is the only constant in life." - Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher who probably spent way too much time staring at rivers. Indeed, change is as inevitable as my morning coffee spilling on a fresh shirt, and just as transformative. Reflecting on my own journey and few others, its clear realization that we are constantly swimming in a river of time, dodging the rapids of unforeseen circumstances and the occasional branch of regret.

Take the weather, for instance. One minute, you're basking in the sun, and the next, you're running for cover from a downpour that has all the subtlety of a toddler with a garden hose. It’s like the universe's way of reminding us that plans are merely suggestions.

Consider fashion. Remember those parachute pants from the '80s? (Don’t worry, I’m trying to forget too.) They were all the rage back then, making people look like they were ready to float away on a gust of wind. Fast forward to today, and they’ve been replaced by skinny jeans so tight they could double as a second skin. It's as if we’ve collectively decided that circulation is overrated.

And speaking of evolving tastes, let’s talk about technology. A decade ago, smartphones were a luxury, a shiny new toy for tech enthusiasts. Today, they’re a lifeline, a digital extension of our very selves. We rely on them for everything from navigating our way through traffic to remembering our own anniversaries. (Pro tip: Always let your phone handle the memory part. Your spouse will thank you.)And soon AI will dominate the world.

Now, let’s sprinkle in a dash of wisdom from the past which is history. “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” said Franklin D. Roosevelt, a man who never had to worry about Wi-Fi dropping during a Zoom call. The challenges he faced were monumental, but so are ours, just in different ways.

The future, as they say, is a mystery. It’s a grand, unopened present, wrapped in a labyrinth of what-ifs and maybes. We can’t see inside it, no matter how much we shake it or hold it up to the light. All we can do is approach it with the optimism of a child on Christmas morning.

Which brings us to the present, the elusive “now.” It's a gift, they tell us, though sometimes it feels more like socks from a well-meaning aunt. But it’s in the present that we have the power to act, to change, to influence the course of our lives. It’s in this moment, as you read these words that you can decide to embrace change, laugh at the absurdity of life, and perhaps even enjoy the ride.

So, let’s raise a glass (or a coffee mug, if it's before noon) to change. It’s not always easy, it’s rarely predictable, but it’s always there, nudging us forward, reminding us that we’re alive. (I recall times when I wondered how I would survive the year out and here I am still with that Never Give up Attitude kicking and fighting.) ?After all, without change, we’d still be wearing those parachute pants. And nobody wants that.
